We get these words by adding -d or -ed to their base form. These words tell us about the completed action. They are called past tense form of verbs.

The underlined action words above talk about an action that takes place in general as daily routine.

Read the following statements given in the columns below. Notice the differences in them.

You might have noticed that the sentences in the first column refer to the actions that take place in general. The sentences in the second column refer to the completed actions.

Also note that some action words are different from their base form (meet met; go-went) to denote the completed actions.

The Lazy Grasshopper

Once there was a lazy grasshopper. It was so lazy. Always it spent its time singing and dancing. Once, it also called the ants to join but they said that they are busy gathering food for rainy season. They advised the grasshopper to do the same. But he laughed at them. Then the grasshopper met some squirrels. The same happened as in the case of ants. Slowly, the rainy season started. The grasshopper had no food. He went to the ants and squirrels to ask for a meal. But they refused. The grasshopper learned a lesson and started to work hard.
